6 things we learned from the Avengers: Endgame watch party
The Russo brothers Avengers: Endgame The quarantine watch party spawned an amazing amount of goodies behind the scenes. They tweeted the moment in one of the unique shots Brie Larson said hello to other superheroes Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) on her first day as Captain Marvel.
“That was @ BrielarsonThe first day ever as Captain Marvel … And here is a short video in which she welcomes the cast for the first time. ” the Russo brothers tweeted Monday.
Larson has shot her endgame scenes before Captain Marveland presented her with the unique challenge of portraying a mature superhero before going through her formative genesis.
Aside from that moment, the Russians dropped several Easter eggs, some of which we already knew – such as community cameos – as well as never-before-seen footage captured by the Russians’ personal cameras.
See six of the best details below, as well as other sweet moments to get out of the watch party.
1. Chris Evans knew that leading Mjolnir would be epic
The Russians gave us a tiny glimpse of Chris Evans’ reaction to Cap Thor’s hammer leading – and that was before the scene got everyone crazy.
“It was early in development when we let him know that he would pick up the hammer … of course he was excited.”
2. Captain America could have embodied the soul stone
At some point the Russians came up with the idea of making Cap a soul stone. “We thought about making Cap a soul stone early in the development talks … But this idea quickly vanished.”
If Cap had replaced the soul stone with Captain America, he would have sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos. His loss, along with that of Iron Man, may have been too much for some. Although others expected more heroes to bite the dust in the Saga Ender anyway.
3. Re-recording the Winter Soldier elevator scene was much easier the second time
The “Hail Hydra” The elevator scene was much smoother for Captain America – and the Russians – the second time. In The Winter Soldier, Cap loses the Tesseract, also known as the ship for the space stone, to Hydra employees. In Endgame, Cap, who has traveled into the past, pretends that he is also Hydra and is smartly strutting away with the Tesseract.
“We shot the original Winter Soldier elevator scene in 4 days,” said the Russians. From the endgame scene, they said: “This scene lasted about 3 hours … talking is easier to shoot than fighting …”
4. The Original Hulk and Smart Hulk are one
We don’t see the process by which Bruce Banners Hulk assumes the solid state of Smart Hulk. “Does the original Hulk personality still live in Smart Hulk or is he gone now?” @ Joshtwitch asked the Russians.
The Russians explained what had happened to the mean green machine we once knew and replied, “The personality that now exists is a new entity … it’s a fusion of Bruce Banner and the Hulk.”
5. Off-Camera The antics of Old Captain America are a spectacle
The Russo brothers clearly kept their personal collection of clips behind the scenes for a rainy day.
One of the best is Chris Evans, who plays around in Old Captain America’s robe – a unique look for sporty older people.
6. Robert Downey Jr.’s last scene was “I’m Iron Man”.
While we knew that the scene in which Iron Man snapped his fingers and defeated Thanos was the last scene of Downey Jr., here’s the second round where this scene was shot.
Initially, Iron Man said nothing when dusting Thanos, but after the editor Jeff Ford suggested the brilliant line To complete the Iron Man circle, the cast and crew came together to re-shoot the scene with the added line.
The Russians imply that their recordings of Downey Jr.’s last day on set were the day he re-shot his last scene.
More from the watch party
The Russians unloaded a lot of photos behind the scenes of the cast and tidbits while filming.
Here’s one of those cute cast photos.
And here is a clip of Evans’ last day of shooting, when he finally had to say goodbye to Cap after a decade of defining “America’s Ass”.
In this much lighter clip, Downey Jr. gives his carefully considered assessment of a scene with him and Chris Evans: “Naaailed it!” he says before they shoot in New York.
“Here we are preparing to shoot an Asgard scene in the stately cathedral in Durham. We had to wait for the choir rehearsal to finish …” the Russians tweeted.
“Here are some BTS from Joe’s iPhone that are going through and are planning some of the footage for Hawkeye’s journey through time.”
Here we have an unrecognizable downtown Atlanta that masquerades as Tokyo for filming.
Those kids who ask for the Hulk’s autograph are really family members of the Russians (a cute, but already known Easter egg).
