5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week! – Android Apps Weekly
Welcome to the 397th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the big headlines from the past week:
- WhatsApp spent its entire week doing things for his privacy. First of all, the privacy settings were changed, a necessary change as these settings have not been changed in years. It also announced encrypted backups for even more privacy. This is likely due to the start of an investigation into the privacy and encryption of WhatsApp. The lawsuit alleges that WhatsApp is hiring content reviewers who can see messages, despite the company providing assurances that it cannot see anything users send. - WhatsApp also saw itself in hot water this week. The EU has fined the company nearly $ 300 million for violating the GDPR. According to reports, WhatsApp is not doing well enough to let people know how it is sharing data with Facebook, hence the fine. WhatsApp thinks the fine is too high and is appealing the decision. However, it probably won’t work.
- Google Clock still doesn’t ring. The topic started with a few posts on Reddit last week. However, after a new update, the problem seems to be as bad as ever. Some of our readers have told us that they don’t trust the app even when there is an alarm. According to our survey, only about 5% of people noticed an improvement in alarm sounds after the update. We didn’t think this story would go on for two weeks, but we will keep you updated when it goes on.
- The internet was in an uproar last week. People noticed a Microsoft placeholder page that strongly suggested that Xbox would get support for Android apps at some point. Such support would be a game changer for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, according to Microsoft, the text on the page was a mistake. With the excitement of the people, however, you can bet that Microsoft is probably investigating the idea right now.
- Epic Games’ war on the Play Store and the Apple App Store took a big turn this week. A judge ordered an injunction that will eventually allow Epic Games to bring Fortnite back to the App Store. It also allows the developer to collect payments outside of Apple’s jurisdiction. This is a big deal as it allows other developers to bypass the App Store as well. This change does not yet apply to Google. However, the key word in this sentence is “still”. On a positive note for Apple, the courts have not found that Apple is violating antitrust laws with the App Store.
Battleship Apollo
Price: Play for free
Battleship Apollo is an online PvP game featuring spaceships. The players start with a ship, build it up, equip it with various weapons and fight against each other. That is the central premise of the game, although there are a few other things to do. The game relies on long-time gamblers with opportunities for upgrades that will last a good, long time. Unfortunately, the game is a bit aggressive with its microtransactions. You can obviously pay to get further than other players, and a lot of people don’t like that in a game that revolves around their PvP experience. It has potential, but there is definitely some work that developers need to do to achieve that potential.

camouflage
Price: For free
Camo is an app that turns your phone camera into a webcam. The app already exists on the PC and has been tried by millions of people. Some of the features of the Android version of the app include various filters and customizations, compatibility with over 40 apps (including those like Zoom), support for different video resolutions, support for all cameras on your phone, and the company claims not to collect data. It’s in beta right now, so it’s most likely bugs. However, you can always control it from your computer. It’s a decent app overall, especially since phone cameras are way better than real webcams these days.

SpongeBob’s idle adventure
Price: Play for free
SpongeBob’s Idle Adventures is the newest game based on the kids TV show. This is obviously an idle game. At its core, it’s a simulation game where you’ll open a range of stores and reap the benefits in terms of cash flow. They use that cash flow to unlock more things which then generate more cash flow. There’s nothing particularly unique about idle leeway. However, the game also has collectibles, decent graphics and who doesn’t like playing with SpongeBob in it? It’s definitely not for everyone. The gameplay is simple but repetitive so it gets old after a while. It’s a time killer, so those looking for something deeper are in the wrong place.

Routines
Price: For free
Routines is a new habit tracking app. Basically, the app helps you identify your daily habits so that you can either improve them or destroy them. After a while, the changes you make will become a habit and the app will no longer be needed except to make sure you stick with it. The app works pretty well with a nice looking user interface that is for the most part easy to navigate. You set up your various habits and activities and the app does the rest. The app is brand new so there are probably some bugs we didn’t find. Your mileage may vary as usual.

World fin
Price: For free
World Flipper is a mix of pinball and action RPG. The core mechanics of gameplay toss things across the room to deal damage to opponents. In addition, in the game you can build teams, use their skills synergistically and there is a social element with boss fights. We only played through the tutorial with this one, so we didn’t see all there was to see, but it’s definitely promising, especially for people who like hybrid games. In addition, pinball with RPG elements is more fun than match-three mechanics with RPG elements.
