2021 Mercedes E-Class steering wheel will know a lot about your hands
We are over a few months the debut of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan 2021and we have only a few days left before the debut of the refreshed E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet. To fill this gap, the automaker presents some more details about a seriously improved component in the E-Class range.
Sharp eyes may have noticed a chic new steering wheel on some of the pictures that came in to unveil the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan 2021. But there is not just one; In fact, there are two new designs, one with one-piece side spokes and one with layered double spokes on both sides, the latter should apply exclusively to AMG Line and AMG vehicles.
Both new wheel designs contain buttons, which is nothing new, but not indeed Keys. Rather, each spoke carries a series of capacitive sensors that track where your finger lands. So not only can you tap each icon on the wheel and get an answer, you can also use gestures like swiping for additional functions like changing titles or menus. In comparison, current E-Class wheels have two small touchable pads on the spokes.
Mercedes-Benz claims that the switches on the wheel can withstand temperatures above the boiling point of water, so they should work fine after the car has been in the sun for some time. You know, just in case you’re worried about it. You were Are you worried about the winter hardiness of your steering wheel switches, right?
The steering wheel trick doesn’t end here. Earlier (which are still running considering the new E-Class is not yet on sale), when the car’s driver assistance systems shouted at you with your hands on the steering wheel, you had to give in a bit of a wobble to the torque sensors letting your hands be where they are supposed to be. This is no longer a problem, as capacitive sensors are also attached to each side of the wheel. So a firm grip is all that is required to prevent the nannies from roaring on your face. If you are one rebel If you ignore the handles of the system, a system is activated that simply runs over the car. Good luck try to fool it with a stupid piece of plastic.
The automaker didn’t choose this week to reveal these details just because they looked good on a calendar. Instead, Mercedes-Benz is preparing for the debut of the revamped 2021 E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet, which will likely feature many of the same improvements as the sedan, such as updated bezels and the launch of MBUX, the automaker’s newest and best infotainment system. Both variants will be introduced to the world on May 27 at 5 a.m. in a digital world premiere on the M-B website.
