2021 Lexus IS debut rescheduled out of respect for George Floyd
During the protests in the US after George Floyd’s deathJapanese luxury brand Lexus announced that it has postponed the IS 2021 debut for a future date. Lexus was originally scheduled to unveil the car on June 9th.
The automaker made a brief statement on the decision on Friday, saying: “Lexus has respectfully postponed the world premiere of the new IS, which was originally scheduled for June 9th. The revised timing will be announced shortly.”
The decision to postpone the unveiling follows a statement from Lexus’ parent company Toyota on Wednesday. The automaker joined countless other companies that spoke up for the black community after Floyd’s death. Toyota continued to condemn “unacceptable bigotry and lack of awareness of the COVID-19 virus in relation to recent social problems such as violence, killings, and racism against African Americans in Minnesota, Kentucky, Georgia, and elsewhere.”
“We stand behind our commitment to diversity and inclusion,” added the statement.
