Audi officially announced pricing for its new A7 plug-in hybrid on Wednesday, which will join electrified A8 sedan and Q5 crossover in the company’s lineup this fall. At $ 75,895 at the start, including $ 995 for the finish, the unattractive A7 55 TFSI E costs $ 5,700 more than the base price of the sleek Audi Sportback.
However, it’s worth noting that the plug-in hybrid is only available in the higher Premium Plus and Prestige features of the A7, the latter costing $ 81,245 including destination. Compare this to the similarly equipped versions of the A7, and the plug-in models only mean increases of $ 550 and $ 1,900 respectively. Not bad. And that’s before you take advantage of the federal and local tax incentives available.
The heart of the A7 55 TFSI E (seriously, these names!) Is a 2.0-liter I4 turbo engine with an electric motor between the engine and the seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The electric motor is powered by a 14.1-kilowatt-hour battery, and according to Audi, the total system output is a healthy 362 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. That is an additional 27 HP compared to the standard A7, but an identical torque.
The advantage of a plug-in hybrid system is, of course, the possibility of driving only short distances with electricity. Audi has not yet released official range or fuel consumption data, but previous tests have shown a range of about 25 miles Expect a slightly lower number for U.S. cars in the European cycle.
The 2021 A7 plug-in hybrid is expected to hit stores this fall, so we should have official assortment information at this point. The A7 PHEV is part of Audi’s efforts to electrify a third of its product range by 2025.
