120Hz displays could be coming to cheap Redmi phones

  • Redmi could soon introduce a new phone with a 120 Hz display.
  • The screen will apparently support Adaptive Sync and be able to scale between 30 Hz and 120 Hz.
  • The phones are expected to hit the market later this month.

Redmi could soon launch a cheap smartphone with a high refresh rate screen. According to tipster’s digital chat station, at least one new device called the Redmi Note 9 series has a 120 Hz display.

The display also supports Adaptive Sync, which helps determine the appropriate refresh rate for the application. It is scaled down to 30 Hz to save power while displaying static images, or up to 120 Hz while playing. Other refresh rates are possible in between, including 48 Hz, 50 Hz, 60 Hz, and 90 Hz.

In terms of screen size and resolution, the phone is said to have a 6.67-inch LCD with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. Although Android Authority Readers may not like LCDs, it is a fair sacrifice to upgrade update rates cheaply. According to previous rumors, at least one of the devices could also come with a 108-megapixel camera and 33W charge, further sweetening the deal.

Finally, the leak also suggests that a 4,800 mAh battery can also be seen in the Redmi device. When you combine this with Adaptive Refresh Rate technology, users can theoretically see pretty long statistics on battery life. We will have to find out whether this is true in practice as soon as the device makes its debut.

Although the new leak suggests the phone will be part of the Note 9 family, it is unclear which title Redmi will actually use. The brand typically debuts two new Note iterations each year, and sticking to the Note 9 label departs from that tradition.

Still, three new Redmi Note 9 devices are expected to hit the market this month. Judging by the price of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, we could also see stickers under $ 300.
