IO games are difficult to define. They can be multiple genres with or without complex graphics. However, they all have two things in common: simple mechanics and online multiplayer.
IO games started out as arcade browser games, but now there are a lot of them on Android too. They don’t offer a lot of depth, but that’s okay. In general, IO games are great for killing a few minutes here and there, and that’s about it. Here are the best IO games for Android.
Due to the high number of IO games on Android, we may have missed one of the really good games. If so, let us know in the comments. We’ll have a look at them for sure!

Agar.io
Price: Free with in-app purchases
Agar.io is one of the most popular IO games for Android. It went viral years ago, and many people are still playing it today. You are basically wandering around as a ball, and the goal is to swallow smaller balls and avoid the larger ones. The game also allows you to customize your ball. Most of the other objects floating around are other players. It’s quick, simple, and easy to learn.
Brutal.io
Price: Free
Brutal.io is similar to Agar.io, but has additional mechanics. You are playing as a small flail and the goal is to beat players with a smaller flail than yours. This way you can increase the power of your flail to defeat larger opponents. There is also a mechanic who guards steal your energy if you get too complacent. It’s easy but challenging. It will kill a few minutes on the couch with no problem.
Deeeep.io
Price: Free
Deeeep.io is a kind of underwater multiplayer fighting game. Players hover around as small rectangular sea creatures. You try to take out the other players using the different tools that you get as the marine animal of your choice. For example, sharks can ram while the squid can grab other players. It’s a little brighter and more active than other IO games. In addition, the cast of 80 characters gives the game a little depth – – a rarity for the IO genre.
Fidget Spinner.io
Price: Free with in-app purchases
Fidget Spinner.io works similarly to the other IO games on the list. You play as a fidgety weirdo who gets bigger and bigger as the game progresses. The usual applies: you have to defeat smaller players. There are a variety of fidget spinners to choose from, and you can unlock more if you want. However, they are strictly cosmetic. Skins don’t give you buffs. Finally, there are missions, power ups, and other things that add a little depth to the game.
Goons.io
Price: Free / $ 3.99
Goons.io is a hack-and-slash-style IO game. You and a bunch of random people roam around a map and pounce on each other. The one with the better timing gets the kill, while the dead player drops points. These points enlarge your sword and allow you to become more powerful. Goons.io contains three game modes including Solo, Teams and a Capture-the-Flag mode. That gives it an edge over most single-mode IO games. Goons.io also includes various unlockable skins for some customization.

Hole.io
Price: Free / $ 0.99 – $ 3.99
Hole.io uses many of the same mechanics as Agar.io and similar games. However, this increases the ability to interact with the map. You play like a black hole and wander around the map and eat things. It can also be other players, entire buildings and other objects. They grow as you eat them until you get big enough to eat the entire menu. There are bugs and this one has some gross ads. Otherwise, however, it’s a fun time killer.
Paper.io 3D
Price: Free / Up to $ 3.49
Paper.io 3D is another decent IO game. This places the players on a 3D object that they have to colorize. You essentially first draw a closed shape and shade it your color. You enlarge the shape until you eliminate or are eliminated other players. The premise is pretty simple overall. I have experienced an error on occasion. For example, I died when another player was supposed to have by the rules of the game. Fortunately, the mistake doesn’t happen that often. Otherwise it’s a good time.
Slither.io
Price: Play for free
Slither.io is one of the most popular IO games for mobile phones. It went viral a few years ago and is one of the most recommended in the field. They roam like a worm in a mass of other worms. If you hit another player you will be killed, and if another player hits you they will die instead. You are basically prowling around trying to get other players to beat you. There are a lot of ads out there when you die a lot, but otherwise it’s one of the classics in the genre.

Snowball.io
Price: Free / Up to $ 4.99
Snowball.io brings us back to the brawler part of the genre. This works a bit like a Super Smash Bros. with a low rent. You move around with a massive snowball and try to hit other players with it. If you meet them, they will be crossed off the map. This continues until there is only one person left. The map also occasionally breaks and narrows the play area until all but one of the players has disappeared. It’s silly, fast, and fun.
Warbot.io
Price: Play for free
Warbot.io is a brawler-style IO game. Players join as a mech and try to take out opponents. The game drops various capsules that improve attack and defense during combat to gain an advantage that everyone will argue for. Also, the game supports offline mode, a choice of five mechs, and a few other things. The temporary, random upgrades add a bit of flair to the gameplay. Don’t forget, however, that this is an IO game. It’s not the deepest mech combat experience.
